| | | | The Ghosts of East Martello
www.kwahs.com Contact Fort East Martello - 3501 S Roosevelt Blvd - 296-3913
Permanent history exhibit features the people who struggled to build this island city, whose stories are slowly disappearing from the collective memory, becoming ghosts of our past. From the Calusa, who may have used Key West as a burial ground, to the traditions of the Jazz funerals, to the stories of Cubans who struggled to reach our shores. You'll meet Robert the Doll, the Fort's most famous, some say haunted, resident, learn the sad story of Elena Hoyos, whose body was taken from her crypt by Count Von Cosel, and much more.

| | 8:00 PM | Diversity: The Voices of Sarasota - Broadway Our Way
www.diversitysarasota.org Contact St Paul's Episcopal Church - 401 Duval St
The production includes selections from a wide variety of
musicals. The group has received many favorable comments following their
last concert: “A splendid performance,
full of talent, heart and soul. The audience was captivated from the
start” and “What great talent with such a generous spirit! Thank you!!! A wonderful evening!!”
Under the direction of
Artistic Director, Philip Alexander, the all-volunteer chorus will provide you
with great musical talent combined with comedy and, as always, some unexpected
surprises!
Inspired by the success of
GALA’s (Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses) Tampa conference, this musical group began in 1997 with
the founding of The Gulf Coast Men’s Chorus, and in 2005, a women’s chorus,
Harmony, was added. In 2008, the groups formally merged to become Diversity:
The Voices of Sarasota. The mission remains the same. More than
providing great music; the goal remains: to help share and develop the
firm belief that everyone has a place in our community. Made up of gay
and gay-friendly women and men, Diversity has performed in and around Sarasota, Key West,
Miami and Montreal, not only giving stand-out shows but also spreading
the message of tolerance and acceptance of diversity.
General seating tickets will
be $20.00 at the door. For more information about this concert or if you
are interested in making a contribution to the chorus, (a not-for-profit
organization) visit the chorus online at: www.diversitysarasota.org or call
(941) 957-0404.
