“Shadow & Light: Island Contrast,” opening December 3, 2025, at the Key West Museum of Art & History.  The exhibit invites artists living and working in the Florida Keys to explore the transformative relationship between natural light and the everyday world through visual art.

In the early days of movie making, Florida sunshine lit the sets for many movies, while the palm trees and beaches provided a beautiful backdrop.  Movie producers have been making films in Florida almost since the dawn of the industry.  For a short time in the early twentieth century, Florida even rivaled California as a place for movie making.  However, a lack of government support, money, and studio facilities hurt the industry here, and movie companies soon began leaving the area.

“Shadow & Light: Island Contrast,” opening December 3, 2025, at the Key West Museum of Art & History.  The exhibit invites artists living and working in the Florida Keys to explore the transformative relationship between natural light and the everyday world through visual art.

Opening December 3, 2025, and running through February 15, 2026, “Shadow & Light” encourages artists to step outdoors and observe how light transforms their surroundings.  Whether literal or abstract, the works should evoke wonder, introspection, and a sense of connection to nature’s elemental forces.

The exhibition will be juried by a panel of local arts professionals: Dr. Cori Convertito, Curator for the Key West Art & Historical Society; Elena Devers, Deputy Director of The Studios of Key West; Jane Grannis, Vice President of Anne McKee Artists Fund; and Carole Garcia, Chairperson of the annual Anne McKee Art Auction.

The Waterfront Playhouse is delighted to present “Some Enchanted Evening”, a glowing musical celebration of the iconic work of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Running December 4–20, this uplifting revue brings together some of the most beloved songs in the American theatre canon—an evening of melody, romance, and storytelling that has shaped generations.

Directed by Artistic Director Patrick New and under the musical direction of Roberta Jacyshyn, this production showcases five exceptional performers:

Jeremy Zoma– Key West

A beloved local favorite, Jeremy last appeared at the Waterfront last season in his celebrated roles as Oliver in “The Angel Next Door” and as the Baker in “Into the Woods”.

Ellen Grace Diehl- New York

A classically trained soprano with roles spanning “Sherwood”, “Oklahoma”, and “Carousel”, Ellen is celebrated for her polished vocals and refined musicality.

Bridget Adams-King–Chicago

Bridget brings Chicago theater flair to Key West, appearing to great acclaim as the Baker's Wife last season at the Waterfront. Other acclaimed turns include “Dreamgirls”, “Once on This Island”, and “The Color Purple”, each showcasing her powerhouse voice and dynamic stage presence.

Trey Forsyth- Key West

A vibrant local talent, Trey has performed in NYC workshops and regional productions including “West Side Story” and “She Loves Me”, earning praise for his expressive tenor and natural charm.

Cece Donathan- New York

A rising star and recent graduate of Ball State University, Cece broke onto the scene with a memorable regional performance in “Legally Blonde” and a national television spot for Garnier.

In true Waterfront Playhouse fashion, this production blends heartfelt artistry with the unmistakable warmth of our Key West community. Whether these timeless songs are old favorites or brand-new discoveries, “Some Enchanted Evening” promises a holiday experience filled with nostalgia, charm, and beautifully crafted musical theatre.

Join us at the Waterfront for an unforgettable night of celebration and song.

Performances run December 4-20. Tickets are available now at waterfrontplayhouse.org or by calling the box office at 305-294-5015

Accomplished Key West Pianist Larry Smith has taken up residency in the newest historic music venue in town, creating a Jazz Lounge at the William Weech American Legion at 803 Emma Street on Monday nights.  He honors the legacy of music at the William Weech post while continuing his long tradition of hosting open jams on Mondays, premiering on November 03, 2025, with bassist Joe Dallas and drummer Skipper Kripitz.  Smith’s jams are legendary - they enjoy a long history of jam alumni - from talented high schoolers - to grammy award winning star professionals from around the world.  Larry Smith’s jams are requisite for all touring musicians passing through Key West.  After sitting in and enjoying just one of Smith’s sessions, the guest musicians return year after year to recreate the free, artistic, joyous music.  The music for Larry's jams is never pre-determined as the set list is spontaneously arrived upon depending on the “feel” of the audience, the “mood" of the night, and the “fancy” of the musicians who are performing that night.  Aficionados of jazz from around the world have become loyal followers. Location  Key West Museum of Art & History at the Custom House, 281 Front St., Key West - Map
