LOCAL MUSIC STUDENTS TO PERFORM WITH\nCOMMUNIT Y BAND\nThe annual Young Musicians' Concert\, presented by the Keys Commun ity Concert Band\, includes local band students from Key Largo School\, Co ral Shores High School\, and Plantation Key School. Bandmaster Robert Sax \, Coral Shores High School\, will present an\nentertaining program\, incl uding several award-winning student ensembles.\n\nBring the kids! The Key West-Cuba Heritage Inst itute has been working around the clock for the past three weeks to make t he concert happen\, as the nonprofit wanted Key West to be the first stop of the tour\, and for Los Van Van to perform on Marti’s birthday\, Cabanas said. “This is the world’s No. 1 Latin band. We are lucky to have them pl aying in our community.” The significance of holding the event on Marti’s birthday is especially rewarding for Cabanas\, he said. Marti came to Key West in 1891 to address Key Westers on Cuba’s struggle for independence. H e gave a rousing speech from the balcony of what is now the La Te Da hotel \, restaurant\, bars and cabaret on Duval Street. “There is a shared histo ry between Key West and Cuba\,” Cabanas said. “Key West and Havana are si ster cities. French is her native lan guage\, and accompanying herself\, she has performed her cabaret program “ Songs That Touch the Heart” which features French\, Italian and American s ongs of the 30’s\, 40’s and 50’s in New York and Key West\, as well as ven ues in France. She is a member of the Keys Chorale and one of its accompan ists.\n\nNancy 3. Hoffman has performed internationally as a singer\, pian ist and accordion player. She is a member of “The Casco Bay Tummlers” Klez mer Band\, and founder of “The Maine Squeeze” accordion ensemble.
